11/4/2023 0 Comments Jennifer connelly phenomena gipher![]() It all descends into glorious chaos for the Grand Guignol climax, which is perhaps the most thrilling house-of-horrors funhouse ride Argento has yet given us. But the introduction of slimy maggots, a razor-wielding pet chimp and six million buzzing insects set it apart. A very young Jennifer Connelly (she was only 15) speaks Italian at the premiere of Dario Argentos movie 'Phenomena'. But here comes the shocker: this music phenomenon didnt study anything music. With its girls boarding school setting and unseen killer on the loose, Phenomena can be taken as a companion piece to Argento's earlier classic Suspiria (1977). Kennedy, Mukesh Ambani, Sundar Pichai & Jennifer Connelly. Claudio Simonetti's electronic score is perfect, particularly the haunting main theme with its 80s synths and choral soprano vocals. It's visually stunning and I loved the incongruity of having all this gory mayhem happen against the picturesque backdrop of the Swiss Alps. Phenomena is a surreal, magical and surprisingly beautiful film, as much a dark fairytale fantasy as it is a horror film. While Phenomena is not official Clock Tower media, the film likely influenced the creation of Clock Tower: The First Fear to a large degree and has many similarities, along with Suspiria and The Burning. An edited version of the film was released in the United States under the title Creepers. Argento really let his imagination run wild making this one. Phenomena is a 1985 Italian horror film directed by Dario Argento. As for the rest of the cast, Donald Pleasance is good as the wheelchair-bound Scottish entomologist and Daria Nicolodi has fun with a small but juicy role. She deserves special credit for taking on some truly gruesome scenes, like when she falls into a pit of maggots, slime and rotting corpses. ![]() She is one of my favourite Argento heroines, a tough, brainy and eccentric little girl somewhere between Nancy Drew and Snow White. ![]() A 14-year-old Jennifer Connelly shines in the lead role, playing a sleepwalker who has a bizarre telepathic bond with insects and uses them to help her solve a string of gory murders at a girls boarding school in the Swiss Alps. ![]() It definitely seems to be a love-it-or-hate-it kind of film, even more so than most Argentos, and I think it's his most unjustly underrated piece of work to date. After starting a family, Connelly decided to slow down and accept work she truly felt passion for, leading her to spend as long as a year not working, so it's no wonder she's been a bit out of the spotlight in recent years.Phenomena has long been one of my favourite Dario Argento films. Her gritty portrayal of substance dependence inspired her to take more complex roles and expand her range. Dario Argento’s Phenomena may consist of dodgy acting, over-the-top-gore and a non-sensical plot but taken as a dark fairy tale this film can be viewed a little more favourably, and while Connelly may want to leave this film off her resume it’s still worth checking out. Connelly's husband, Paul Bettany, and their children now take up much of her time - something she's genuinely happy about.Ĭonnelly's movie career began in the 1980s and, although she took some memorable roles, her career didn't take a serious turn until 2000's Requiem for a Dream. After having worked as a model for several years, she began to concentrate on acting, starring in a variety of films including the horror film Phenomena. She began her career as a child model before making her acting debut in the 1984 crime film Once Upon a Time in America. From master of horror Dario Argento (Suspiria, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage) comes Phenomena one of his most eccentric and unique thrillers, featuring telepathic insects, maggots galore, and even a razor-wielding chimp Jennifer Corvino (Jennifer Connelly, Labyrinth), daughter of a world-renowned movie star, arrives in. She could even be considered among the most reputable horror movie actresses. Jennifer Lynn Connelly (born December 12, 1970) is an American actress. Released in 1985, Phenomena stars Jennifer Connelly in one of her earliest roles as Jennifer she had previously appeared in Sergio Leone’s crime epic Once Upon A Time in America along with Argento regular Daria Nicolodi and the great Donald Pleasance. Anyone indulging in viewing their childhood cult favorites like Labyrinth and The Rocketeer may wonder what happened to Jennifer Connelly. Fans will be happy to discover she's still a working actress, just appearing in much less lighthearted films and television. Connelly now is an Oscar-winning actress who appears in both big-budget movies and independent features with the same amount of professionalism.
