11/2/2023 0 Comments La lakers wordmark“The team that’s around (James) now, the pieces that we have in place, those guys are going to step up and do a lot of heavy lifting early,” Ham said. But Pelinka and Ham both spoke in favor of the policy, and they don’t anticipate James or Davis missing many games - when they're healthy, which was never a given in recent seasons. Indeed, James is among a handful of highly experienced NBA veterans allowed to have special rest exemptions under the league's new player participation policy, which is designed to compel teams to put their top players in more games. He was grandfathered in by the rest rule. ![]() That’s going to allow us to be more efficient with (James’) game-to-game minutes. “We can surround both (James) and AD with these players who are coming in eager to contribute, eager to show they can impact winning. “We have, top to bottom, what we feel like is a highly balanced, skilled, athletic, younger team of guys that have logged a ton of NBA minutes,” coach Darvin Ham said. With full seasons from midseason acquisitions D'Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt and Rui Hachimura alongside five new veterans, the Lakers appear to have their strongest roster since raising their last championship banner in late 2020. After watching his team go 18-8 out of the trade deadline before winning a play-in game and two postseason rounds, Pelinka wanted to see what this group could do with a full year together. Indeed, the Lakers kept most of last season's roster and supplemented it with several promising additions in a bid to build a complete contender around James and Anthony Davis, who will lead their teammates back to training camp next week. Adding the depth, the versatility, the shooting, all of those things are going to help us manage that.” We have to partner with him to help him get all the way to the end, because that’s his goal. That was all done knowing LeBron is going into the 21st year. “I think there’s upgrades (in) spacing and shooting, top to bottom. ![]() These new jerseys matched the previous black alternate introduced in 2008.“I think we were very intentional about the versatility that this roster has, the depth that the roster has,” Pelinka said Thursday. The Kings kept the purple accent in the alternate jersey until 2013, but eliminated all other colors from their home and away uniforms. 2011-Present: Kings Eliminate Color From Primary Jerseys This stripe is surrounded by silver, similar to the silver stripe along the bottom of the jersey. It is primarily black, with a white stripe on the sleeve. This jersey is very similar to what the Kings use now as their home uniform. With a new alternate jersey, the Kings threw it back to the Gretzky era and removed the purple. 2008: Kings Introduce Purple-Less Alternate Jersey This was the first time the Kings had used the crown as their primary logo since 1988. The shield became the alternate logo, and the crown became the primary logo. (Photo Credit: Classic Auctions)Īlthough the Kings used a purple alternate jersey until 2007, the logos were changed in 2002. The Los Angeles Kings decided to bring back a different shade of purple in 1999. All of these issues, combined with the circus-like purple numbers, made it a jersey to forget. Due to the gradient streak across the jersey, that resembled a royal sash, the logo was placed at the top right near the shoulder, not in the middle. The Burger King/White Castle-looking logo isn’t even the main issue with the jersey. In 1995, the Kings introduced an alternate jersey that was one of the worst in NHL history. They also had contrasting and silver collars. There were still stripes of the contrasting color on the sleeves and bottom of the jersey, surrounded by thin silver stripes. The new logo had a small “Los Angeles” atop a larger “Kings” with a smaller crown logo underneath the wordmark. The Kings altered their main colors to black, white, and silver, to match the NFL’s Raiders who were based in LA at the time. With the arrival of Wayne Gretzky came new jerseys and a new color scheme. 1988-1998: Gretzky Arrives in Los Angeles, Along With New Jerseys The original jerseys matched the Los Angeles Lakers’ color scheme. They also added shoulders and sleeves in the color that contrasted the main shade of the jersey. The Kings added two thin white stripes surrounding the bottom contrasting stripe. The main alteration to the original jersey came in 1980 (see above) when extra stripes and contrasting sleeves were added. ![]() The Kings might have abandoned their old color scheme and designs, but their jerseys are amongst the best old-school uniforms.
